From the first consultation Dr Longstsaff put me at at ease, he carried out a detailed examination of my hip, he then went on to explain what he intended doing and then gave me a chance to ask any questions. Nothing was too much trouble. Within 3 months of the first visit i had my operation which was carried out by Dr Longstaff. I received first class treatment during my 3 day stay, and for the next 4 months received excellent care from all the departments at the hospital. All in all i have no complaints about my treatment and after care, i would recommend both the hospital and the Doctor

I would describe Mr Longstaff as professional, efficient and a direct communicator. I understood the process and issues as we moved from diagnosis to surgery. After my full hip replacement I was walking the next day with support from my physio and now 8 weeks on I am moving well and gaining strength every day with none of the previous pain. The scar is neat and has healed well. Overall I am very pleased with the result and glad to have my new hip.

From the moment I was referred to Mr.Longstaff until I had a final appointment last week, I have had the utmost respect and confidence in him and his team while undergoing my total knee replacement and continuing physiotherapy in the hospital. This has been fully justified in a compete recovery to the extent that less than 9 months down the line I have returned to playing some cricket. A big thank you to all concerned.

I needed a Total Left Hip Replacement and was given an operation date by a private hospital that is based in Teesside and advertises on TV. Nine days before my operation, it was cancelled by the anaesthetist as he said he was not happy about me having 14 year old Coronary Stents. I explained that I had only had one angina attack in my whole life and that was 15 years ago, but he still cancelled the operation. It is my belief, backed up by facts, that the anaesthetist cancelled the operation on the request of the private hospital, which had made a mistake in the operation dates. I therefore contacted Mr Lee Longstaff Orthopaedic Consultant at The Spire Washington Hospital and again explained my full medical history and then informed him that an anaesthetist had cancelled my operation at another private hospital because he had an issue with my 14 year old stents. Now, what would you expect a Consultant to say to that statement? A lot of Consultants would have taken a step back, thinking that some information was missing and would not have preformed an operation however Mr Longstaff did not take a step back, which indicated to me that I was dealing with a true professional. He stated that Stents should not stop a Hip Operation and asked a few questions, before saying he could find no medical reason for this cancellation and that he would run the information past his Anaesthetists, who also found no problems. I went into hospital on the Monday and was discharged on the Wednesday with a new lease of life. I can only give praise to Mr Lee Longstaff and Domonic the Anaesthetist for having the convictions of their profession and the ability to believe in their professional ability and standing.

Having had a knee replacement at University Hospital Durham in June 2019 I would like to comment upon the excellent care and treatment I experienced. Under the direction of Mr Longstaff his multiskilled team ensured I was in the best possible hands. Extremely professional and informative at all times my time in the hospital was as good as I could have hoped for. From the surgeon and his theatre team , through to the care on the wards and the hospitality team the experience was excellent. What for most is a worrying and stressful time in their lives I can not express just how good the treatment has been. I am at present convalescing and following my successful operation I can only thank Mr Longstaff and his team for his help. My quality of life will undoubtedly be transformed once I complete my rehabilitation. Many thanks to everyone involved in my personal care. David Doney
